Digging a bit into the
SWOS underground (kickstarted, I believe by
AOCS) I realized that there were actually tons of small
SWOS clones/fan-communities around the globe. I think this' nice. It honors the simple, original, truly catchy approach of Sensible Soccer/-World of Soccer. I do not really have the time to do my old-timer gamer-duty and contribute (this site alone eats up most of my *precious* (not going to do the LOTR-imitation again)) .. but I can however do a quick review of Yoda Soccer.
The game has the same easy approach as SWOS; The menu's great, control works fine and you're off instantly. No massive download here, no (I'm-going-to-get-myself-a-cup-of-coffee) seemingly endless loading times and the match is pure arcade and you can't help to be captured by it as it flows from side to side. The topdown view works great and it's nice to be able to select another resolution (match-zooming would be great though :-P). It is almost like having the old game back on your system. Great. Not much to write really. No advanced information needed, nor any special techniques. This' a game for all and it's free. I'd just wish that it included leagues and cups and a career mode, transfer list and such .. just like the old days .. But bravo.
A great clone that do not try to reinvent SWOS, but honors the original game. A great tribute, very much worth a download.
